Frequently Asked Questions

Why Custom Frame?

Custom picture framing serves many purposes. The first purpose is obvious, to take your artwork (or item you wish to frame) and display it proudly for you and whomever you wish to share it with. Proper picture framing will ensure your piece will last for years and generations to come.  A proper picture frame will outlast your car, your clothes, even the furniture in your home.

But why custom frame it?

The right frame design enhances the artwork making it an irresistible focal point. Customizing your frame is also a reflection of your personal style. A custom design ties your artwork in to your home or office decor.

With thousands of choices in frames, Corners Framing design consultants will make sure your frame design is perfect for you. We get to know your interests, personality, ideas, lifestyle, and where the piece is going to be hung in order to best design a framing option that will emphasize the beauty of your home and your personal style. Only after getting to know you can we truly work up a finished frame that is suited to your taste.

At Corners Custom Picture Framing, we build our frames to fit more than just the artwork, we tailor our frames to fit you.

What Can Be Framed?

Walk into any frame shop and you will find examples of typical framing, which includes a frame, glass and backing on a flat medium.  It may or may not include a mat or two (and in very rare cases three).  Your typical framed options almost always include the following forms of art:

  • Prints
  • Limited Editions
  • Original Paintings (watercolor, oil, acrylic, finger, etc.)
  • Children’s Artwork
  • Other Fine Art
  • Photographs
  • Letters
  • Diplomas
  • Historical Documents
  • Collages
  • Certificates
  • Awards

At Corners we, of course, frame them all and we frame them well. But what makes us uniquely different and better from your typical frame shop and not just your average framer?

It is our experience, quality products, and our creativity that sets us apart from our competition. Through the use of float mounting/floaters, deckled edges, liners, fillets, raised mounting, fabric/textured matting, or our High Definition Framing™ option, Corners Custom Picture Framing specializes in our ability to frame practically anything. We truly turn your memories into art!

How Much Does Custom Framing Cost?

Custom picture framing prices vary greatly depending on the materials used. There are many different components that impact the cost of your custom picture frame. Be wary of shops that offer a lead-in price for framing orders. It is our experience that you get what you pay for. If a shop is willing to quote low prices, be assured that something is amiss.  Either they are cutting corners (paper mats, cardboard backing, plastic frames, etc.) or its simply a trick to get you into the store.  Some stores quote only the moulding (frame) and omit the charge for labor, glass, backing, etc., until you arrive at the store.  At Corners Custom Picture Framing, we use a computerized, point-of-sale system to price our framing jobs. This system allows us to give you an exact price that covers all of the components of your custom picture framing order.

When we give you a price, it includes all of the materials and labor required to complete the job.

At Corners, we are used to working within a budget.  If price is your concern, we stock quantities of some popular mouldings and mat boards that we can offer at commercial rates, not to mention the multiple sources at our disposal.  Give us your budget, or stop in for a competitive quote today.

How Long Does It Take?

Most of our framing orders are completed in two weeks or less.  However, there are few exceptions:

At Corners Custom Picture Framing we carry over 100 frame profiles in length quantities and always have matboard and glass options available in stock.  This allows us to complete any rush order, fast.  Depending on your frame choice, same day services may be possible.

At Corners, we pride ourselves in collecting the unusual mouldings that our competition simply won’t carry.  Sometimes, this calls for us to do business with vendors outside the Eastern time zone.  Those situations require we import materials which can take longer than one week for delivery to us.

We also offer an extensive finished or closed corner framing line.  These closed cornered frames are custom made to specification and hand gilded in either 22K gold or 12K white gold.  This fine craftsmanship can take up to six weeks for completion. You might have to wait for impeccable craftsmanship, but there is nothing like this exclusive line of frames.

Do I have to leave my artwork?
Rest assured, your artwork NEVER leaves our store.  At times, some shops are shipping your artwork to off-site production warehouses where the quality and experience of their staff is questionable.  At Corners, all work is done on the premises by our certified custom picture framers.  Still concerned?  Then simply bring in your artwork, we will design and measure it and order your materials.  When your materials arrive, we will craft your frame, then make an appointment for you to come back with your artwork to be assembled while you wait.

What Moulding/Frame Options Do You Offer?

At Corners Custom Picture Framing, we pride ourselves on offering the highest quality materials. Our store showcases a wide selection of frames crafted from domestic woods and high-quality imported varieties. We select store samples that feature unique finishes, exquisite embossing, and intriguing patterns and we take tremendous pride in the craftsmanship and quality of each frame. We feature new products immediately, ensuring we are staying on top of interior design trends. Even our economy mouldings are hand selected for superior quality and design. We also carry metal frames, which work well with certain decors, or with modern pieces and posters.

Corners Custom Picture Framing also offers hand-carved and gilded frames in the style of the masters. These finished corner frames both document the history of fine art frames and offer contemporary collectors a new way to showcase their finest pieces. For centuries frames were designed to harmonize with the painting they surrounded and were themselves considered fine works of art. Original frames were hand-carved and gilded by artisans, master frame makers.  Many of these master pieces hang in museums and galleries around the world. There are also exhibitions displaying frames alone, as works of art.  Larson Juhl continues this time honored tradition of fine frame making with the Concerto Collection, the finest finished corners frames available today.  One of a kind masterpieces that will become tomorrow’s heirlooms. The inspiration of these frames came from a love of frame making and an appreciation for designs from many cultures and time periods.  Corners offers the complete Concerto line.

At Corners, we take your satisfaction very seriously.  Our suppliers are selected for reliability and superiority over their competition.  Not every supplier meets our criteria.  Some of the things we consider are: uniqueness, value, quality, environmental impact, and a willingness to stand behind their product.  At Corners you will never find cheap, imported plastic mouldings or poor-quality, ready made frames.

What Matting Options Do You Offer?

Available in a variety of textures and colors, all of our mats are Conservation grade or Museum quality. This means that all of Corners Custom Picture Framing mats are acid free and lignin free, bleed and fade resistant, 100% alpha-cellulose mats. In addition to that, we offer an extensive line of Cotton Rag mats, made from 100% cotton fibers. Corners is also a proud provider of MicroChamber® technology matboards made of synthetic zeolites that traps airborne pollutants. These mats are the only matboard proven to protect photos and artwork from contaminants in the environmental air.

Corners Custom Picture Framing does not use a paper product matboard.  Paper mats do not save much in the way of upfront money and cause more harm than good. A paper mat will fade over time as it releases acidic gasses that will literally burn your artwork. The cost difference for non-acidic mats are in many cases not much more than its paper counterpart, but will last years longer, retain its color, and not harm your art in the process. Concerned that your valued pieces may have already been framed with a paper mat?  Check the inside cut of the mat (or beveled edge). If this cut is beige to dark brown, chances are its a paper product damaging your valuable art, but you cant always tell by the bevel either. Some companies offer paper products that have a bleached white core. Bring in your treasured artwork for a free evaluation by our certified expert framers.

Our design specialists are creative experts and we specialize in inventing our own fabric lined matboards to enhance your piece. Bring in your favorite pattern, a Hawaiian shirt, your practice jersey, a bath curtain, or virtually any fabric and it can be turned into a matboard creating a unique, one of a kind piece!

What Glazing (Glass/Acrylic) Options Do You Offer?

Corners offers a variety of glass and acrylic options to protect your artwork by blocking up to 99% of the UV light rays that can cause your artwork to fade and deteriorate over time. Our glazing choices include (for both Glass and Acrylic): Commercial Grade, Conservation Clear, Non-Glare, and Conservation Non-Glare. In addition, Corners is an exclusive provider of High Definition Framing™ featuring Tru Vue Museum Glass® or Optium Museum Acrylic®.  This glass provides the lowest level of light reflection possible, providing you with optimal clarity.

What is Corners’ High Definition Framing™ ?

High Definition Framing™ refers to the use of designs and materials that enhance your artwork with a substantially higher resolution than traditional custom picture framing. It is Corners’ exclusive technique to ensure you are seeing the crisp, sharp lines of your image with limited distractions.  At Corners, we use our unique design techniques that pull the eye into the image.  Your artwork is then framed using only museum quality products including near colorless, no glare glazing that ensures you are seeing the artwork with the least amount of distortion or distractions.  Quality you can see.

What is Preservation or Conservation Framing?
Conservation framing is using the same methods of museums worldwide to preserve and protect works of great value.  Conservation framing minimizes the problems caused by deterioration of the components of the object itself and other problems introduced by environmental factors such as air pollution, heat, light, and humidity.  It is the appropriate framing techniques used to display the intrinsic beauty and interest of an object, while prolonging its life in a stable environment.  Conservation/Preservation and Museum Quality framing is Corners specialty.

How Does Corners Impact The Environment - Is Corners Eco-Friendly ?

Corners Custom Picture Framing cares for our environment. With today’s global environmental concerns, Corners is committed to limiting our environmental impact and that of our suppliers. You can expect to find Eco-friendly framing options. Corners is proud to feature PEFC frames. The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) is an independent, non-profit, organization.  The PEFC traces the chain of custody of lumber product from forest to final product. Through PEFC, consumers can be confident that they are purchasing a product that is from a well-managed, sustainable forest. Corners Custom Picture Framing is also proud to support The Biltmore Frame Collection. The Biltmore Frame Collection was Larson-Juhl’s and the United States framing industry’s first certified forest-friendly PEFC collection. Corners also offers Larson-Juhl’s latest collection, Billiard, following the forest-friendly trend and also featuring PEFC certification.

Our matboard suppliers are also committed to meeting the highest environmental standards in the industry. They use only environmentally sound adhesives, colorants that won’t contaminate waterways, and recycled materials wherever feasible. In addition, most of the matboard pulp comes only from farm-grown trees, meaning for every tree consumed, another is planted.

Corners Custom Picture Framing personally recycles all remnants of frame and scraps. Including, but not limited to, sawdust, glass waste, matboard pieces, etc., in partnership with the Orlando Wastepaper Company.
